THEIR SONS PROMISED TO COME BACK…

THEIR SONS PROMISED TO COME BACK…

Two people from Lukoml – Hanon Isaakovich Lapus and Yefim Isaakovich Rutman fought in the war from the very first days. When leaving, they promised their mothers that they would defeat the enemy and come back home with victory.

They were lucky and came back alive after defeating the enemy, as they had promised.

But mothers did not meet them and could not even see their medals and orders – they had been shot by fascists together with all the other Jews. That was the news the courageous soldiers received upon arrival.

The rest of their lives they kept the memories of those who had given them life, and came to the mass grave. They both wished to be buried here after their deaths.

Twenty years ago Hanon Lapus was buried next to the mass grave.

Four years ago Yefim Rutman passed away. His relatives also followed his wish. Today there are two post-war graves next to the site of the mass execution. The sons came back to their mothers as they had promised.
