I, together with Alexander Iofik, chairman of Polotsk Jewish Community, approached a memorial, which stands on the road from Polotsk to Yurovichi, The memorial was erected in 2009 and is devoted to 46 Jewish residents of Yurovichi, murdered by the Nazis during the war.

- The inscription on the memorial has a mistake. The people buried here were not Yurovichi residents. They were prisoners of Polotsk ghetto. Only three people from Yurovichi – the Levins – were buried here.

Valentina Hotkina, a witness of those events, told us what she had seen:

- I was born in 1927 not far from Yurovichi. Before the war it was a big village with its own church and an alley. I remember here lived Mihel Levin. He had a wife and a small daughter. I often ran to his kiosk to buy sweets.

He was shot at the end of autumn in 1941. He did not attempt to escape. The Nazis just took his family to the forest and shot them with the girl in his hands. One of the policemen told me about it.

We knew that Jews prom Polotsk ghetto would be shot in that place. Mother did not let me go there. She said that they would kill me as well and throw into the ditch.

More than forty people were killed there…
