THE MENAKHINSI have not met people with the same surname a mine. All the Menakhins I know are my relatives, except for the famous violinist Iegudi Menukhin, whose surname is similar. My father was born in 1903 in Vitebsk. The family moved to the Ukraine in 1904 or 1905, and this is where his younger brothers were born. Unfortunately, I have no information about my great grandfather, except for the fact that one of his sons moved to America at the beginning of the 20th century.
Grandfather Mendel Menakhin,
his wife and senior sons. I can remember my grandfather Mendel Menakhin very well. We spent the war years in Omsk. Our relatives lived there as well, including two of my father's brothers and grandfather with his second wife Mania. Grandfather was a tailor. I remember him as a fine-looking man with a grey beard. I can assume, he was a respected man among the local Jews. He tried to teach me the Talmud and Hebrew. Unfortunately, I do not remember much of what he taught. He died in Omsk after the war. I am interested in everything that is connected with my surname and the family tree. Eduard Menakhin
