LUBONICHI

Valentina Aleksandrovna Oleinikova, born in 1939

I used to work as a teacher of history and collect historical information. However, I never dealt with the Jewish theme. Several years ago I received a letter from Bluma Beniaminovna Marshak, who was born in Lubonichi. She sent me a list of the Jews, who used to live in Lubonichi. She remembered the names of more than 40 people.

At the age of 7 I was sent to work in the family of Zina Kaznelson, where I worked until the beginning of the war. One day, during the war, I approached their house, trying to go in. I saw policemen next to the houses. One of them told me that a punitive squad would soon arrive and it was dangerous to go in. I promised them I would only take a minute.

The family managed to escape into the woods. Later I found out they had been caught by Nazis.
