Yakov Simkin.

Yakov Simkin was born in 1921 in the village of Lenino, Gorky district. Some time later the family moved to Gorky. From the first and until the last day of the war Yakov fought in the army and was awarded several medals.

After the war he lived in Minsk, then in Moscow, where he received a degree in philology. However, painting was his main passion. In 1956 his love for painting brought him to an art studio, where M.T. Raisky became his teacher. Seven paintings were painted during the following year, among them "Alexander Grin", which is now in the writer's State museum.
